移除邊界,讓空間自由呼吸 — 天沐設計延展親密日常,築起庇護夢的居所
—— Gaston Bachelard, The Poetics of Space

Home is more than shelter; it is where daily life and small dreams take shape. A young couple and their two children are based in Kaohsiung. This residence serves as a retreat when they return to visit her family.
The original four bedroom layout split daily life into separate rooms. Responding to the family’s wish for a place to pause, to gather with friends, and for children to play, T.M Design Studio removed the unnecessary partitions. The result is an open interior that welcomes both everyday routines and moments of rest.

Stepping through the entrance, the space opens to a clear and expansive view. The living, dining, and kitchen areas are arranged in an open layout, allowing air and light to circulate freely and enhancing both height and transparency. This setting also encourages natural interaction among family members.
By day, sunlight filters in to highlight the wood veneer that extends from wall to ceiling, bringing out its warm texture and depth. By night, soft lighting washes across white walls and timber tones, creating a sense of quiet belonging where the family can unwind.

In the open communal space, the children have a dedicated play corner—safe and independent, yet still part of the shared layout. Designed without interrupting the flow, it allows parents to keep a caring eye on their kids while going about daily life.
At the center of the room is a rotating TV stand, acting as a quiet pivot that connects the living area, dining table, and play zone. When the children are playing, the screen turns toward the sofa so parents can sit nearby. During gatherings, it swivels toward the dining table and blends into the scene.
Here, the television is no longer a static object of entertainment. It becomes a responsive medium—shifting with daily rhythms and anchoring the home in connection and shared experience. Whether during quiet family moments or lively weekend visits, life unfolds easily in this shared space.

Within the open-plan interior, the design still leaves room for a quiet surprise. Between the entryway and dining area, what appears to be a decorative wall volume is, in fact, a concealed storage room.
T.M Design Studio used the partition structure to create generous built-in storage—softening the visual transition between spaces while resolving practical needs. It quickly became one of the homeowners’ favorite “secret spots,” large enough to hold everything from golf equipment to everyday clutter.

Material choices throughout the home reflect a thoughtful sense of refinement. The overall palette is anchored by wood veneer and white surfaces, creating a warm and natural tone that aligns with the homeowners’ preferences. Even the kitchen follows this language, with custom wood cabinetry that reinforces visual continuity and lends a sense of ease and comfort to every corner of the space.
To enrich the spatial texture, the designers introduced terrazzo in soft grey and white tones as an accent. Its scattered mineral fragments catch the light with a quiet shimmer, adding a subtle elegance to countertops and shelving. Slim metal elements are also integrated in key areas, striking a gentle balance between the softness of wood and the grounded weight of stone.

Interpreted by T.M Design Studio, this home embraces a “less is more” approach—removing unnecessary ornamentation in favor of flow, clarity, and the needs of daily life. Spatial functions take center stage, supported by a thoughtful layering of materials, fluid movement, and shifting light. Together, these elements speak to the home as both a place of shelter and an expression of how the family lives.
As Gaston Bachelard once wrote, a house is where one can dream in peace. When design allows daily life and dreaming to coexist, the meaning of home transcends its physical form. It becomes a quiet guardian of the lives unfolding within.
