光景共生:隨田野的風,拾起靜緩的生活步伐

As the city falls away, home takes shape on the horizon of the Lanyang Plain. Moving from Taipei to Yilan, the parents sought not just a house but a place where their children could grow alongside nature. Here, daily life aligns with the changing seasons.
Designed by KAH Design, the residence shifts focus from architecture to living. The structure steps back, allowing family routines and the landscape to take the lead. More than a container, the house becomes a living presence, carrying the air of the fields and the quiet warmth of everyday life.

The character of a home is an extension of how life is lived. To create a space where children can explore freely and friends can gather with ease, the first step was to dismantle the original layout and leave room for openness. The living, dining, and kitchen areas were connected into one flowing core, accommodating both the footsteps of children and the laughter of guests.
To preserve a sense of clarity, service functions such as the bathroom and storage were grouped to one side of the entry. Since the family enjoys camping, the storage was enlarged to hold tents, gear, and bicycles. From this corner, their connection to nature begins to take shape.

With a ceiling height of 3.4 meters, the design retains the raw concrete slab in its original state, left unfinished so that its rough yet quiet texture becomes a silent backdrop to daily life.
In contrast, full-height windows were extended to 2.7 meters, softening the sense of weight created by the vertical difference and opening the interior to sky and landscape. Beyond the glass, rice fields, distant mountains, and shifting daylight unfold like a living canvas, turning nature’s vitality into the home’s most luxurious view.

In the kitchen, the ceiling corner is curved to soften both movement and sightlines, creating a calmer atmosphere as people pass through. Above the TV wall, a once heavy beam was redefined into a slanted surface that conceals lighting. A track light runs along the slope, its glow reflected and diffused into a gentle radiance that envelops the living room at night.
A circular opening punctuates the wall, releasing a warm orange light that recalls the setting sun. At dusk, this glow echoes the sky outside, subtly blurring the boundary between indoors and out.

The same attention to detail extends into the private quarters. In the master bedroom, the washbasin was moved outward and integrated with the dressing table, enhancing the sense of space while giving daily routines a quiet sense of ritual. Beside the bathtub, a pane of clear glass opens the view through the bedroom to the mountains beyond, bringing in the ease of a resort-like retreat. Unbound by conventional layouts, the arrangement reflects the homeowners’ open mindset and results in a private space that feels both generous and free.

Material choices reflect the homeowners’ preferences and way of living. The overall palette is calm and warm, with wood and light tones forming a gentle backdrop for daily life. In the kitchen, a terrazzo countertop adds a playful note with its speckled pattern, becoming both a focal point and a touch of lightheartedness that makes the space feel warmer and more inviting.
In the master bathroom, handcrafted Spanish tiles line the surfaces. Each piece carries unique hues and irregular edges shaped by the kiln, softening the usual coolness of ceramic finishes. The result is a tactile warmth that transforms the bathroom into a reassuring retreat, a place to unwind and return to a sense of balance.

The soul of the home begins with the presence of the child. In the design process, the team often imagined her moving freely through the spaces. This vision guided the release of the public areas, the softening of corners, and the use of warm, durable materials—ensuring a safe ground for exploration. The house, quiet yet deeply affectionate, holds the family’s everyday life.
Here, home becomes a place of discovery, where the child learns about the world through light, texture, and scale.
