在平衡邊界上,尋覓生命的正向維度:室內高爾夫球俱樂部「GOLFWER」於靜中蓄力,重拾專注的光

Life can be seen as a continuous motion, an ongoing act of resisting inertia while constantly reshaping itself in search of forward momentum. When this reflection meets the precision, composure, and energy found in golf, a new kind of space emerges that transcends everyday routines and channels positive vitality.
Named GOLFWER, a fusion of “golf” and “power,” the project symbolizes focus and inner strength in motion. Designed by Degree Design, this venue inside the Taichung Sports Center is not simply a driving range but a modern sanctuary where both body and mind realign. Guided by light and fluid lines, the space defines a new dimension of physical and mental experience, conveying the uplifting spirit of sport.

Infusing residential sensitivity into a commercial setting
Located on the second floor of the Taichung Sports Center, GOLFWER sits alongside a gym, yoga studio, and massage rooms as part of a BOT (Build–Operate–Transfer) government project. Degree Design defined “fluidity” and “the footprints of light” as the core concepts of the space, intertwining illumination and circulation to capture the motion and energy inherent in sport.
The brand adopts yellow as its signature color, symbolizing sunlight, warmth, optimism, and positive energy. Instead of applying it broadly, the design team used it strategically at key nodes, reflecting the brand’s emphasis on neutrality, rationality, and inclusivity. Yellow becomes a subtle highlight that reveals itself through movement: in the metallic base of the reception desk, the edges of display shelves, and the soft glow of wayfinding and light bands. The space is composed of a white base, stainless-steel framework, and dark timber veneer, balancing cool and warm tones to create a dialogue between vitality and composure on the same wavelength.

Light as a guide, connecting spatial sequences
The L-shaped configuration and multiple access points—including an outdoor staircase, internal elevator, and emergency exit—made circulation the primary design challenge. Degree Design oriented the main entry toward the external staircase so that the very first step inside meets natural light, creating an intuitive sense of guidance. The reception counter, made of off-white stone-textured material, presents a clean and grounded volume, while the timber columns above extend to the ceiling, establishing a vertical rhythm that conveys both order and approachability under soft illumination.
-
Above this area, an exposed ceiling frame extends from the reception toward the lounge at the back, linking the two zones as one visual sequence. The light and shadows cast by the lattice enrich the height of the space and gently blur the boundaries between areas. As light filters through the slats, it recalls the sensation of daylight streaming indoors, setting a calm and natural atmosphere.
-
A breathing zone for connection and calm
To the right of the reception counter lies the lounge and social area, a transitional node bridging the entrance and the driving range. Degree Design arranged the flow to connect it closely with the reception while maintaining a sense of independence, allowing conversation, rest, and social interaction to unfold naturally under soft light. To accommodate different modes of use, the space is equipped with sliding partitions. When open, it becomes an extended communal lounge; when closed, it transforms into a private meeting room for events or small gatherings.
Suspended from the double-height ceiling, a circular neon light becomes a focal point of the space. The illuminated text provides vertical lighting and symbolizes the brand’s active energy, creating a sense of cohesion at the center. On the side, a white golf cart serves as both a brand statement and a playful photo spot, balancing still display with social engagement.
-
Behind the lounge, the pantry area features cabinetry in dark wood veneer that adds a sense of warmth, paired with a stainless-steel countertop and backsplash that express a crisp modern tone. The fluted glass wall, softly lit from behind, reflects delicate ripples of light and introduces a subtle sense of movement to an otherwise functional surface.
-
The continuity of light, the resonance of energy
Degree Design used light as the central thread, transforming the dialogue between materials into the rhythm of the space. The white base tone carries overall brightness, stainless steel introduces a sense of order and precision, dark wood veneer brings warmth and breath, while stone-textured surfaces anchor a calm balance. As soft hints of yellow filter through, the contrast between cool and warm, rigid and gentle, forms a restrained yet lasting harmony.
The design team envisioned a place where visitors are enveloped by this luminous energy—a sense of positivity and calm that allows both body and mind to find equilibrium in brightness. GOLFWER becomes an urban pause point for regaining focus and energy, where the brand’s spirit of optimism unfolds quietly through spatial experience and can be felt as a subtle warmth.
