處於資訊和物件都過於雜亂的時代，我們對家的想像往往是加法，更多收納、更精緻的裝潢、或甚至更完美無瑕的機能。然而，當感官被外界的繁華與喧囂填滿後，真正的奢侈，或許是推開門瞬間，迎面而來的簡潔與寧靜。
這座隱匿於城市一隅的住宅，由灰色大門所操刀規劃，是一場回歸生活本質的實踐。屏除傳統意義上的電視牆、非必要性的茶几，以及刻意包覆的天花板，將生活還給居住者本身。屋主由於長年與歐美高端奢華飯店的極致精緻共處，在看遍各種頂級材料與繁複裝飾堆砌後，反而更渴望讓一切歸零。設計團隊將空間中的物質與裝飾極少化，讓整體空間退回最初的質樸模樣，恰如其分的留白，反而為生活展開更豐盈的思維與可能。

In an era overwhelmed by information and objects, our idea of home tends to default to addition: more storage, more refined finishes, an even more flawless set of functions. Yet when our senses have been thoroughly filled by the noise and spectacle of the outside world, the real luxury may simply be the clarity and calm that greet you the moment you open the door.
Tucked into a quiet corner of the city, this residence was planned by Gray Gate Design Studio as an exercise in returning to the essence of living. The conventional television feature wall, the non-essential coffee table, the ceiling wrapped for the sake of wrapping: all were deliberately set aside, giving the home back to the people who live in it. Having spent years immersed in the exacting refinement of high-end European and American hotels, the owner had seen every grade of premium material and elaborate decoration, and came away wanting the opposite: to bring everything back to zero. The design team reduced material and ornamentation to the barest minimum, allowing the space to return to its original, unadorned state. The resulting sense of openness, the room left deliberately unfilled, has in turn expanded what daily life here can mean.

以粗獷為骨，與原始建築的坦誠相見
步入開闊的公領域，光線灑落在毫未修飾的天花板上，粗獷的水泥肌理在眼前延展。為了順應屋主「能少就少」的極簡原則，設計團隊刻意要求建商，在客變拆除模板後不進行任何補土與批土程序，廚房與廊道上方的木絲水泥板表面僅刷上一層保護性的透明漆以防止粉化，呈現出最原始且富有張力的質地。
在常態交屋狀態下，RC 樓板難免會在施作牆面時，沾染微量漆料與雜質。為了還原拆模板時最純粹乾淨的面貌，油漆師傅以如同修復古物般的職人精神，耐心地將每一處被油漆噴到的區塊精修。當光線灑落時，裸露的天花板在光線漫射下，展現出極具層次感的模板痕跡，與管線交織，成為空間裡最流暢的幾何線條。

Raw Structure as Framework
Step into the open common area and light falls across an entirely unfinished ceiling, the rough texture of concrete extending overhead. To honour the owner's guiding principle of "as little as possible," the design team specifically instructed the developer to skip all plastering and skim-coating after formwork was removed during the pre-delivery customization stage. In the kitchen and corridor, the wood-wool cement board surfaces received only a single coat of clear protective sealant to prevent powdering, preserving the most unmediated, tensile quality of the material.
Under normal handover conditions, the reinforced concrete slab inevitably picks up traces of paint and debris during wall finishing. To restore the clean, untouched state of the moment the formwork came off, the paint contractor approached the task with the patience of a restorer working on an antique, carefully retouching every paint-spattered spot. When light washes over the exposed ceiling, the formwork imprints emerge in layered relief, interweaving with service runs to form the most fluid geometric lines in the space.Under normal handover conditions, the reinforced concrete slab inevitably picks up traces of paint and debris during wall finishing. 這種對本質的講究，一體延伸至廊道。設計團隊捨棄繁複設計，藉由連續性的隱藏門片與極簡立面，悄然隱匿私領域入口。公共區的灰色無接縫地坪蔓延至廊道底端，將空間格局整合為一個純粹的視覺畫面。

This insistence on essence extends seamlessly into the corridor. Forgoing elaborate design, the team used continuous concealed door panels and a minimal facade to quietly hide the entrances to the private rooms. The grey seamless flooring of the common area runs unbroken to the far end of the corridor, unifying the layout into a single, undisturbed visual plane.

在留白中躍動的靈感核心
在這個由灰白色調構築的開放式空間，廚房區域的一抹深邃藍色，成爲空間中最凝聚的焦點。櫃體與中島大膽選用 FENIX 智慧奈米熱修復藍色板材，在俐落清冷的不鏽鋼檯面、陳列櫃和木質餐桌襯托下，泛著內斂高雅的微光，與粗獷質樸的天花板形成強烈而迷人的對比，讓物件在縱深中彷彿擁有了彼此應答的生命力。
視線拉高，天花板上懸掛著兩盞出自設計師野口勇之手的紙吊燈。屋主卻刻意避開對稱與均一的制式，挑選形狀同中帶異的燈具，一高一低地錯落並置。當暮色降臨，微弱的光線透過紙質纖維暈染開來，就像兩顆在虛無中漂浮的星球，以一種藝術性的不對稱打破空間的絕對理性，溫柔拂照著家的暖意。

A Focal Point Brought to Life Within the Emptiness
Within this open space built on a palette of grey and white, a deep, saturated blue in the kitchen becomes the most concentrated point of focus. The cabinetry and island make a bold statement in FENIX nano-technology self-healing blue laminate, which glows with a restrained elegance against the clean coolness of stainless steel countertops, display shelving, and a timber dining table. Set against the raw, unfinished ceiling above, the contrast is striking yet captivating, giving each element a sense of dialogue across the depth of the room.
Look up, and two paper pendant lamps by designer Isamu Noguchi hang from the ceiling. The owner deliberately avoided symmetry and uniformity, choosing two fixtures similar in form yet distinct in shape, suspended at staggered heights. As dusk settles in, a soft glow diffuses through the paper fibres, and the two lamps float like planets drifting in open space, their artful asymmetry breaking the room's absolute rationality and casting a gentle warmth across the home.

褪去物質的沉澱，隨視線隱入純淨私領域
由於屋主長年於國外從事飯店管理，待在台灣的時間相對有限，而母親也在原本的透天厝享受著熱鬧的社交生活。這個空間更像是屋主每回返台時，能讓身心徹底放鬆的純淨庇護所。正因為特殊的生活型態，設計團隊在公領域維持極大化的開闊尺度，並同時巧妙地為未來留下可以容納變革的伏筆。將來無論是屋主決定回台定居，或是將母親迎來一同生活，空間都能隨時順應需求彈性重畫，切割格局，更能包容未來幾十年的生活演變。
視線轉入純淨的私領域，臥室空間同樣採取極簡主義的手法，捨去床架與床頭櫃，僅以簡練優雅的天花板包覆結構與冷氣管線，也同時化解大樑壓頂的沉重與壓迫感，讓空間自成一個最能沉澱心靈的安穩角落。

Shedding the Material, Retreating into a Pure Private Realm
Because the owner has spent years working in hotel management abroad, time in Taiwan is relatively limited, while their mother continues to enjoy her active social life in the original townhouse. This apartment functions more as a pure, restorative sanctuary for the owner on each return. Precisely because of this particular way of living, the design team maximized the openness of the common area while also embedding a quiet provision for future change. Whether the owner eventually resettles in Taiwan permanently or invites their mother to move in, the space can be flexibly redrawn and repartitioned at any time, accommodating decades of evolving life.
Turn toward the private quarters, and the bedroom follows the same minimalist approach. The bed frame and bedside tables have been dispensed with entirely. A clean, elegantly finished ceiling conceals structural beams and air-conditioning ducts, dissolving the oppressive weight of an overhead beam and allowing the room to become a still, settled corner for the mind.

在極少中獲得極多的行為自由
設計總監坦言，在沒有常規配置與機能家具的設限下，一般人習慣的生活感被刻意抽離，任何一件隨意買進的雜物都可能打破這份純淨。但這正是極簡主義最迷人的地方：將物質的干擾降到最低，空間的留白，反而為人解鎖了絕對的行為自由。屋主可以在這片寬廣的公共領域，與朋友一起吃飯或桌遊，甚至任意搬動家具，讓空間成為更具趣味的遊樂場。
當我們學會了減法，空間才能真正開始承載生活的重量。在這裡，悄然靜止或許不只是時間，也是那顆在看盡奢華繁複後，終於落地生根、重獲自由的純粹初心。

Absolute Freedom of Action Within the Barest Minimum
The design director acknowledges that without the anchoring presence of conventional furniture and standard configurations, the familiar feeling of a "lived-in" home has been intentionally withdrawn. Any casually acquired object risks disrupting this purity. But this is precisely where minimalism is at its most compelling: when material interference is reduced to its lowest possible threshold, the emptiness of the space unlocks an absolute freedom of behaviour.
The owner can host a dinner or a board-game evening across this generous common area, or simply rearrange the furniture on a whim, turning the space into a more playful kind of arena.
When we learn to subtract, a space can finally begin to bear the true weight of living. Here, what stands quietly still may not only be time itself, but also a heart that, having seen every shade of luxury and elaboration, has at last put down roots and recovered the freedom of its original, unadorned intent.
