光影下的緩慢時序,為日常留一處靜地:一座獻給生活的度假行旅
-
When people speak of vacations, they often picture the ocean breeze of an island, the stillness of a forest, or a quiet retreat where the mind can loosen and drift away from the rush of daily life.
In a tranquil corner of Taichung, Eleven Spatial Integration created a home that goes beyond the idea of a residence. For the homeowners, a couple who live abroad, this is a second home designed for rest and renewal, a Nordic-inspired retreat devoted to relaxation. Here, light and nature compose the rhythm of life. The moment one steps through the door, it feels like setting off on a sensory journey that requires no distance at all.

A gentle curve, a trace of time
The journey begins at the entrance. The design director abandoned rigid, rectangular layouts and introduced an elegant arc that softens the room’s edges while concealing a storage area within. It replaces what was once a guest bathroom, allowing the circulation to unfold in smooth, natural transitions. The curve feels like a deep breath taken upon returning home, easing the body and mind in an instant.
The walls are finished with a handmade mixture of lime, sand, and rice bran, their texture carrying the scent and warmth of time. Under the glow of a Saint Louis Folia Sconce, delicate shadows drift across the surface, as gentle as morning mist.
At the edges, the designer added panels of iron oxidized with seawater and sealed with linseed oil, evoking the patina of time. This quiet detail reinforces the tactile calm of the space, striking a balance between softness and strength.

The freedom of light and wind
Following the curve inward, the space opens into a bright and expansive living area. The once-enclosed kitchen has been completely revealed, with a central island bar forming the heart of interaction. The living room, dining area, and kitchen align along a single axis where light moves freely, becoming the soul of the home.
When the homeowner entertains friends, conversations flow naturally across this open space, whether from the sofa or the dining table over a glass of wine. The atmosphere feels easy and unrestrained, carrying the lingering warmth of everyday life.

On one side of the living room, a solid wall has been replaced with folding doors that allow sunlight to reach every corner. When opened, the area extends into a gallery for the couple’s collection of Nordic furniture; when closed, it transforms into a quiet guest room. In the movement between open and closed, light and wind drift through the space, bringing the outdoors gently inside.
-
A bathing ritual for the senses
If the public area represents generous hospitality to others, then the primary bathroom is an act of gentle indulgence for oneself. Inspired by the natural experiences of Bali, the designer carved out a small indoor landscape where plants and stone intertwine to form a miniature garden. Within this intimate scene, one can sense a hint of the outdoors even in daily life. Here, bathing becomes more than cleansing—it turns into a ritual dedicated to the senses.

Here, the designer chose to forgo the usual division between wet and dry areas, as well as the use of glass partitions, allowing the space to remain light and transparent. Through a precisely calibrated floor slope, function and aesthetics are quietly brought into harmony.
Positioned on the west-facing side of the home, the bathroom catches the afternoon sun filtering through wooden blinds, scattering soft, dappled light across the walls and floor. As steam rises and light moves through the space, time seems to slow, dissolving into a tranquil moment shared with nature.

Returning to the tangible essence of living
From German mineral paint and oak flooring to a solid wood daybed treated with natural oil, every surface in the home carries a sense of authenticity that invites touch. The designer wanted each material to retain a subtle warmth under the fingertips, shaping a retreat that feels effortlessly relaxed.
When design turns its focus back to people and the textures of everyday life, a home becomes more than a shelter. It transforms into a destination, a place where one can begin a journey at any moment.
